A family reunion: Meet Jock's great grandchildren in Kingston, Jamaica - Vania, Gabriella and William Hume. Read about the chain of coincidences that led me to them 103 years after Jock's death on the Titanic. Did my grandmother, Mary, know about the secret son he fathered in the West Indies?
And The Band Played On is the shocking untold story of what happened after the Titanic sank. As the White Star liner went down, 1,500 men, women and children were thrown into the ice-cold water of the North Atlantic. Half an hour later they were all dead. More than a thousand of them were never seen again.
Two weeks after the ship went down, Jock's father Andrew Hume, a music teacher in Dumfries, received a bill for his son's uniform. When he asked if his son's body could be returned, he was told 'normal cargo rates would apply'. Andrew became a broken man bent on avenging his son's death.
Jock's grave in Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Of the 1,500 passengers and crew who died, only 320 bodies were recovered. They included Jock and two of his fellow bandsmen. Band leader Wallace Hartley was given a hero's funeral in his home town Colne, Lancashire.
